Reddit’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is a veritable cornucopia of the many !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of shop lyfe. You never know what’s gonna roll in. Here’s what caught my eye this week.

I walked back into the shop... to find all of the techs on duty surrounding my truck. The shop lead was revving the engine, and there was a noticable hitching noise that wasn’t there before... I sit down and the next thing I know, the shop lead kills the engine and begins to angrily wrench off the oil filter. He finds bits of metal...

Fleet company put this on to see how much of a fuel savings it would generate, judging by the emails attached to RO, it wasn’t enough so I have 10 to remove off of these trucks. Battery is where the spare tire goes, has a separate cooler and pump to keep battery and motor cool. Motor attaches to modified driveshaft and regenerates/assists through that. Neat kit, not fun to remove all the tie wraps and hoses they decided to run in the worst places.

Told him what happened and showed him pictures, wasn’t too mad because I wasn’t the one that did it. He was glad I fixed it. Hes coming back in 2 weeks to have me put aftermarket toe links on his car and align it.

...he was super mad at the other tech and talked with our Service manager. But hes a pretty cool guy.

i actually called the customer and he realized his mistake as soon as i started talking lol

...i guess they were going to cut the gasket instead of buying the one at autozone for $1 lol. they ended up chasing their tail and replacing a bunch of parts before bringing it to the shop

We first saw it at 87,000km, this was around 227,000km. No history of replacement, likely original lol. Only ever did groupon oil changes every visit.

This is off a 3UR-FE. There was a freeze frame stored/trouble code that said the engine was running at 145 degrees [C] . Needless to say, it’s getting an engine, radiator, all hoses, belt, etc.

...I think it was headed somewhere to have some extensive work done

That is the cabin air filter. Evaporator core is blown and AC oil is all over the inside of the car.

to top it off it was a vacuum disconnect Dana 30 everything was full and they Lincoln locked it. complete rebuild.

That windshield one was on I-15. The route I take to work normally. Im always worried about this kind of thing. Thanks for that.

In the late ‘80's, I was looking for a low mile replacement engine for my daily driver 1967 Chevelle . I bought a 1975 Malibu with 56k miles on the odome t er from a gypsy fortune teller for $500. It had been in a minor collision, with damage limited to right front fender and suspension, but I was able to drive it home slowly, pulling right all the way .

The plan was to pull the engine and trans, do a cam, intake and carb swap , and dress it. First indication this would not be the case was when I pulled the first valve cover. I find foil from oil bottle seals, pine needles and sludge. When I pulled the intake, the amount of caked sludge was alarming. I filled a Nike hi- tops shoe box full of this stuff............

I decided to do a full tear down and start from scratch, trans too. My low buck swap turned into a budget killer.
